We are disappointed that Waitrose has taken this decision. There is no evidence that these insecticides have an adverse effect on bees in the real world. There is however, argument that other factors, such as disease pressure and changes in habitat, do have an impact and should be tackled. Crop protection products, which include insecticides, are vital tools for farmers. It seems strange that Waitrose should take this course of action, which won't lead to any meaningful improvement in bee health, but could have serious consequences both for farmers' businesses and for consumer access to the safe and affordable food they produce.
