A renowned Italian chef will be showcasing the best of fresh fruit and vegetables at this year’s Speciality & Fine Food Fair in London. The event, taking place from September 10-11, 2024, is set to feature cooking demonstrations and tastings aimed at highlighting the quality and sustainability of produce from Italy and Europe.
Chef Alexander Stancu will be leading the culinary demonstrations at stand 1930 in Olympia, London, on behalf of the “I Love Fruit & Veg from Europe” initiative. The campaign is managed by five leading Italian agricultural organisations and co-funded by the European Union. Its primary goal is to promote the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy and sustainable diet.
During the event, Chef Stancu will prepare a variety of Italian recipes, showcasing the versatility of the fresh produce available from Europe. Attendees will be able to sample the dishes, which aim to demonstrate how simple, yet delicious meals can be created with fresh, high-quality ingredients. “The best way to tell the story of great produce is by letting people taste it,” said Emilio Ferrara, spokesperson for the I Love Fruit & Veg from Europe programme. “Eating fruit and vegetables is one of the healthiest and most enjoyable choices we can make.”
Ferrara emphasised the health benefits of a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, noting their importance in disease prevention and overall well-being. “A diet rich in these foods not only boosts our well-being but also plays a crucial role in preventing many health issues. Our initiative endorses the quality and sustainability of Italian and European produce, reflecting health guidelines from the NHS and the World Health Organisation: aim for at least five servings daily,” he added.
One of the featured recipes at the fair will be a light and refreshing peach, fennel, and rocket salad. This simple dish is designed to highlight the natural flavours and textures of seasonal ingredients. The recipe, which takes just 20 minutes to prepare, combines grilled peaches, fennel, and rocket leaves with a citrus dressing made from blood orange juice and white wine vinegar.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how easy it can be to incorporate fresh fruit and vegetables into everyday meals. Chef Stancu’s presentations are expected to draw considerable interest from both food industry professionals and consumers alike.
The Speciality & Fine Food Fair is a key event for those in the food and drink sector, offering the opportunity to discover innovative products, engage in live demonstrations, and connect with producers. The presence of the I Love Fruit & Veg from Europe programme underscores the growing focus on sustainability and health in food production.
The event’s organisers hope that the demonstrations will encourage more people to include fresh European fruit and vegetables in their diets, aligning with broader efforts to promote healthy eating habits across the UK.
