Glovo, the popular multi-category app, has unveiled its most significant product update since 2016, introducing a series of new features designed to merge social media with food discovery. The updates, revealed at the company’s first annual product event, “Glovo Next,” aim to enhance how users engage with the app by allowing them to share recommendations, create personalised lists of their favourite restaurants, and explore a video discovery wall.
The Barcelona-based company has become the first in its industry to integrate social networking capabilities within its app, giving users a new way to connect with friends and share their favourite food spots. Glovo’s update marks a departure from traditional food delivery apps by creating a more interactive and community-focused experience for its users.
Introducing Social Networking to Food Delivery
Daniel Alonso, Chief Product Officer at Glovo, highlighted the significance of this update, calling it a major milestone for the app. “Glovo is going beyond the norm by becoming the first in the industry to combine social media elements within our platform,” Alonso said. “We’re excited to present this new and interactive way for users to discover, share, and engage with the products offered in our app. Users will be able to enjoy their favourite products like never before.”
The new social features enable users to connect with friends directly within the app, allowing them to see what others are ordering, share recommendations, and discover new restaurants based on popular trends. Users can now engage with each other in a shared foodie experience, further enhancing the app’s community aspect.
Personalised Lists with ‘Picks’
Among the newly introduced features is ‘Picks,’ a tool that allows users to create and organise lists of their favourite restaurants and dishes. With ‘Picks,’ users can save top choices for different occasions, such as casual dinners with friends or quick office lunches. These lists can also be shared with others, offering a more collaborative approach to food discovery.
The ‘Picks’ feature is designed to make it easier for users to manage their dining preferences while also facilitating recommendations among friends and family.
Dynamic Video Discovery Wall
To add an additional layer of interaction, Glovo has also introduced a video discovery wall, a new tool in the restaurant section that showcases full-screen vertical videos of dishes. These videos are created by local restaurants, offering a more dynamic and visual way for users to explore food options.
The video wall is intended to help users make more informed choices by providing real-life glimpses of menu items, ultimately making the decision-making process more engaging and enjoyable.
“Glovo Next” Product Event
The updates were revealed during the inaugural edition of “Glovo Next,” the company’s newly launched annual product event. According to Alonso, the event will be a yearly showcase of the company’s most innovative features and a platform for unveiling future developments.
“‘Glovo Next’ is meant to be the annual forum where we present our most innovative disruptions,” Alonso explained. “We want to create a rolling thunder of changes to Glovo, making it the go-to app for everything instant.”
The new features are currently being rolled out in selected cities, with a full release planned over the coming months. Glovo operates in 23 markets and more than 1,500 cities worldwide, with the latest updates expected to reach all users soon. For more information about Glovo, please visit: https://about.glovoapp.com
